Nisa Islam Muhammad is a national correspondent for The Final Call Newspaper. It was while doing research on a fatherhood story after the Million Family March in 2000 she discovered the 1999 Morehouse Research Institute document Turning the Corner on Father Absence in Black America.
In this publication, Mrs. Muhammad read that married men make more money than single men. That statement intrigued her to explore further. She asked herself, "Does anyone else know this?" That was the beginning of her quest to unearth a wealth of knowledge about the benefits of marriage.
Her search took her to Diane Sollee of Smart Marriages, The Coalition for Marriage, Family and Couples Education. Ms. Sollee so wisely directed her to Charles Ballard of the Institute for Responsible Fatherhood and Family Revitalization and to Dr. Lorraine Blackman author of the African American Marriage Enrichment Program. These relationships guided her work and she's been a staunch activist in the Marriage Movement ever since.
Wedded Bliss Foundation is Ms. Muhammad's vision to bring resources, support and direction to the Black community so happy marriages become the norm rather than the exception. Ms. Muhammad knows both the joys of marriage and the sorrows of divorce. She wants to create better foundations for successful marriages so her five children can enjoy Wedded Bliss.
